Chronic prostatitis promotes cytokine production in the corpus cavernosum and increases oxidative stress, resulting in imbalance of intracellular calcium in CCSMCs. Moreover, CCSMCs are transformed from contractile to synthetic phenotype, and the collagen synthesis increases, resulting in the fibrosis of the corpus cavernosum
