DSS or TNBS induces proinflammatory cytokine expression and activates transcription factor NF-κB in C3H/HeN and C3H/HeJ mice. (A) Colitic inducers increased the protein expression of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α in the colon of mice. The mice treated with DSS or TNBS were sacrificed on the 7th and 3rd day, respectively: the white bar, normal group; and black bar, DSS or TNBS-treated group. These cytokines were determined by ELISA assays. The values of enzyme activities indicate the mean ± S.D. (n = 7). * Significantly different in each cytokine of DSS or TNBS-treated mice compared with normal group (p < 0.05).

(B) Colitic inducer increased TLR-4 expression (white bar) and activated NF-κB (black bar). These expressions were measured by immunoblot analysis.
