Leukocytes from obese children and adolescents displayed a reduction of PPAR-α and GLP-1R gene expression. a PPAR-α, b PPAR-β, c GLP1R, and d GIPR mRNA expression levels were measured by qPCR in leukocytes from each group. The values are expressed as a normalized ratio between the target gene expression and the geometric median of the PGK and YWHAZ endogenous genes (n = 19 for obese group, n = 18 for lean group). Statistical differences were analyzed by Student’s t test (* p <  0.05)
