Incubation of omental fat explants in the absence of albumin reduces but does not abolish upregulation of IL-8 or TNFα mRNA and release. Explants of human omental adipose tissue were incubated for 2 or 48 h in the absence or presence of 1% albumin. The data are depicted on a log2 scale and are the mean ± sem of 4 experiments. The values for mRNA are based on the changes in absolute Cp values over time as compared to the Cp value in the unincubated tissue. Statistically significant changes with time are indicated as follows: * P < 0.05 and ** P < 0.025. The differences without vs. with albumin at 2 and 48 h were significant [P < 0.025] except for TNFα mRNA at 48 h.
