A549 cells or HPAEC cells were seeded onto the culture inserts of permeability assay chambers and grown for 24 h before being transfected with the vehicle control (C), PBEF stealth siRNA (Si) or scrambled RNA (Sc), pCAGGS-hPBEF (E) or pCAGGS (V) for 48 h before treatment without or with 15 ng/ml TNFα.
